PITTSBURGH – Allegheny County Republican Chairman Sam DeMarco today issued the following statement regarding Speaker Mike Turzai's departure.

As Speaker of the House, member of the general assembly, and as a citizen, Mike Turzai has cast a colossal profile across the landscape of this commonwealth and ennobled the business of government with his service.

I have watched Mike from the days he first sought public office and have seen him in good times and bad, during loss and victory. The one constant was his adherence to the principles that guided him: honesty, fair play, and common decency. Where others have called names, he has spoken leadership. Where opponents threw mud, he planted the seed of reconciliation. Where some called for a quick fix, he stood firm and fashioned lasting legislation.

Western Pennsylvania has sent many men and women to the halls of power, but it remained for Mike Turzai to empower others by his presence there. No one has better served the position of Speaker of the House. He is irreplaceable and unforgettable.
